Liberty Finds {Decisions}
15 March 2010 | by Jen in Frocks & Such
I knew I was going to check out the Liberty of London stuff at Target this past Sunday. I also knew I was not going to wake up at 6am (ON A SUNDAY) to get there before the store opened, especially with the time change (side note: Yahoooo!!!). I wanted to avoid the mad rush and figured if there was nothing left for me when I got there at 11, then it wasn’t meant to be.
When I arrived, I first headed to the women’s section. Not unexpectedly it was a bit of a mess and I could tell my size was virtually sold out. There was one dress left and while it fit, I put it back because it was polyester. I’m not a fabric snob but I was hoping for cotton.
Then I went to the girls’ section: score! Cute and cotton dresses aplenty and this was one of those times that I was glad to be petite. The smock dress above is my favorite. The color is not something I would normally pick out for myself but it goes well with my skin tone and the length is just right.
I also snagged these darling gardening gloves (the ones on the right). I actually needed a pair:

OK, here’s where the decision-making comes in. I don’t know if I should keep the following:

I love the sweet pea print of this top, but is it too juvenile for me?

Same question goes for this sundress (called a cover up on the tag; I guess it supposed to go with the swimsuits). I love the almost psychedelic print. I don’t normally wear such loose styles and do I really need these? But wouldn’t these be great for late summer when the weather is really warm? Could these transition into mommy-to-be wear? (I’m not a mommy-to-be, by the way!)
I don’t know, any thoughts? Did you pick up anything Liberty at Target?

I was so disappointed with the quality of the stuff in the ladies’ section! I bought the top you’re trying to decide on. It’s cute, and I don’t think it looks too young (especially if you wear it belted and bloused). The only thing that has me hanging onto my receipt is the fact that I cannot wear a bra with it (the straps are too thin and oddly placed). I’m not well-endowed so I could technically “get away with it” but I’m not very comfortable going braless (especially with a tot — they love to pull on clothes!). I think it would make a great maternity top, too, but you won’t be able to wear it past about 6-7 mo in (my belly came in around 7 months).
my favorite collection at target thus far!
i picked up a black & white women’s bathing suit and i thought it was fantastic. i might have to go back for the rain boots, too!
all in all, i was very impressed with the collection. more so than collections that they’ve featured in the past. i know the women’s dresses weren’t cotton, and surely that would have been nice .. but at least the prints were pretty.
have you heard about the garden collection at h&m? you should definitely check out a preview if you haven’t. it comes out march 25th.
I go the same things! I bought the top dress. though I kind of feel 5 when I wear it. I think I need to figure out how to style it or maybe it will look better with sandals come summer. I also got the Sweet Pea top but am also unsure of it! I think it will be great for summertime!
Yes. You need them both. Really, you do.
Can’t believe I didn’t check out the girl’s section – what was I thinking? I shared your disappointment at so much polyester in the ladies dept, but bought one of the little tops anyway.
The last dress is gorgeous!! So many juicy colours in that print. I’m in London so I’m quite jealous about the collection you guys have in Target! Maybe I should visit the Liberty store and see if they have any of it over here… I’m surprised about the fabric being polyester. I suppose it’s their way of keeping the prices down.
I really like the sundress, the fabric is so pretty! Also from what I see on your blog I think it’s totally your style
Everything is adorable !
Hi Jen,
Did you look on line for the Liberty petite? I don’t know if they carried it in the store, but I saw it on line. Go to my blog, to see what we ended up with. I did the same thing you did, I decided not to get there super early, we were there at 11 also. I guess there were about 50 people waiting! Ours had a lot of clothing, but the housewares were sold out real quick!
I haven’t been yet, and I am not holding my breath that I will really find anything either. I really do like the bedding though… alas, the wallet always wins.
thank you, everyone! i certainly had mixed feelings about the collection but i suppose it’s a good thing that i didn’t love (and buy) everything.
meg and chelsea – i think i will keep the top after all. it would be really cute with some shorts! meg, could you wear a strapless bra or maybe a camisole underneath? (i hear you about the strap placement.)
cassaundra – no, i haven’t heard about that collection. it sounds lovely!
elizabeth – i didn’t know they had petites until i looked online. but it’s all the same fabric and i really love the cotton in the girls’ line. but i’m amazed they even thought of us small women anyway!
I bought the rainboots. they are absolutely the most adorable things i have ever put my eyes on… but they are also made the worst!
they leaked the first time i wore them!!
basically-i’m taking them back asap.
hopefully your finds work out better!
Love the big print floral patterns!
