Vintage Paper Garland Giveaway
09 December 2010 | by Jen in Free StuffI hope it’s not too late to incorporate a little handmade something into your holiday decorating! Here’s a merry little giveaway just for you…
A few years ago I stumbled upon this vintage 1940s gift wrap in the $1 bin at the flea market. The vendor seemed more than happy to be rid of it and even made a comment like “Well, if you think you can do something with it.” Granted, the paper was quite fragile but the sweet illustrations more than made up for that. I knew immediately what I would make of it but alas, during the rush of the holiday season it never became a priority. But finally I decided to check it off my mental to do list so I wouldn’t have to think about it anymore!
Here it is, a 9′ garland (plus a little extra string at the ends) made from vintage Christmas wrapping, kraft paper, red & white striped candy twine and a dusting of gold glitter. I had so much fun making it, I made 2. One for me and one for a lucky Fabled Needle reader.
All you need to do is leave a comment and tell me what your favorite DIY holiday craft is. It could be anything really: decor, food, clothing, cards, etc. It could be something you’ve made, something you’ve received or something you hope to make! (And like me, it’s taken you a while to get ’round to it.)
Because the season is upon us, this giveaway only goes through Tuesday, December 14th and closes at Midnight PT; open to everyone. I hope you’ll participate – good luck, dears!

This is more then lovely, it’s gorgeous!
What a great idea and the images are superbes!
I’m doing homemade greetings cards right now, but I do love garlands all year long!
Every year I make a variety of cookies. It’s my go to thing for Christmas.
That is a very pretty garland. My attention span with crafts is pretty short, so I tend to hop from one thing to another. At this point I wam loving making wristwarmers for gifts. So cozy in this freezing weather.
Right now I’m working on fabric gift wrap and pouches. I love working on jewelry around the holidays though.
So adorable! I love it, and with the candy cane string? Too cute. My family doesn’t do a whole lot for Christmas, decorating wise, but I certainly love to bake! We always have cookies and candied pecans!
Yay! They turned out beautiful!!! Ohh I hope i win!! xoxo
My favorite DIY craft for Christmas… probable the paper ornaments I made last year, or perhaps the doilies chopped in half and then strung on red and green bias tape, They go over just about every window I have… xo
Oh my goodness, Jen! This is such an adorable idea–thank you for being so generous and doing a giveaway!
I think my favorite DIY holiday craft is cookies and candy… I love making a variety of sweets to box up and give to family and friends. In fact, I’m in the midst of baking some things right now!

I love to make my Christmas gifts! This year I’m doing felt crayon roll-ups for nieces and nephews, and rice hot/cold neck pads for adults. Love the garland!
What a wonderful garland!
This year, I’ve wanted to make a garland of some sort to spruce up our little home, but have yet to find the time.
There are so many wonderful holiday crafts, things to make and bake and do, it’s hard to have a favorite. When I was little, my parents would always make pretzel bark, and I loved the cool marble slabs and the smell of melting almond bark… I seem to have started a tradition of knitting my sister something toasty each year for Christmas, and that’s a great holiday DIY
I love making paper snowflakes, and would love to make them a bit more ‘grown up’ by making them 3D somehow…
But really, my favorite thing is simply wrapping presents in creative ways.
Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been making and deocrating Christmas cookies with my sisters: smothered in toppings when we were younger, perfect holiday specimens when we were old enough to care, lewd cookies when we didn’t care, and now, whatever strikes our fancy!
Oh, I would LOVE to have this! I decorate with hand made and vintage! And I love making little felt ornies…bells, scottie dogs, gingerbread men…houses! I may start some little projects tomorrow! Thanks Jen! Happy holidays! ♥
love it!
my favourite DIY holiday crafts are gifts in a jar.
It looks so good! I made these little christmas decorations out of icing. I made lots of random etchings and i’m planning to spray them gold and hang them soon. I also love making paper wreaths.

How lovely! What a very thoughtful use for such a delicate item. I enjoy decorating this time of year with all the meaningful holiday treasures peaking out here and there. It’s like having a loved one spend the holiday with you.
LOVE reading about everyone’s favorite holiday crafts and cooking.
This year I’m experimenting with making peppermint choco brownie bites, with crushed peppermint canes in both the mix and the icing. Hope they turn out well!
As for some of my favorite holiday crafts and gifties: one year I made both my parental in-laws and my sibling in-laws quilts with Japanese-themed prints (one queen-sized, one lap-quilt-sized, with wool batting), and one of the years after that I did the same thing with jewel-toned batiks. So much fun!
xo!
My favorites are making candy (faster than cookies, but no one believes it) and trying to figure out what last-minute things I can knit or crochet for a Christmas gift. This year I’m attempting a Trilobite hat, despite only having knit two hats before, and neither one in the round or with any fancy stitchwork. There may be a partially completed photo and IOU in someone’s stocking this year.
this is just the sweetest thing!!!! Thank you so much for a chance to win
Pretty! This is my first visit and I love your style and creations. My favorite craft is anything baked (cookies, breads) or simple arrangements made with natural elements. This year I’m also crocheting some presents : ) Merci for your work and for this giveaway.
I love my mom’s homemade rumballs, from her mother’s recipe. Maybe this year I will make some myself, they are soo tasty, and she never makes enough!
This garland is adorable! How could the seller not see the potential? Ah well, it’s definitely appreciated now! : )
As of now I think my little family’s favorite creative holiday activity is decorating Christmas cookies, especially since my 18 month old son is now (kind of ; ) able to help. Once he gets older, though, we’ll probably end up with more Christmas crafts than we know what to do with! I’m really looking forward to making garlands out of construction paper with him since that was one of my absolute favorites when I was little. I would also love for us to build our own little Christmas village out of paper someday.
Every year for a while, my sister and I got together and made our husbands Valentine’s Day cards. We went all out: vintage paper, doilies, stamp art. We haven’t done it for a while (life and kids and all that) but I loved it and miss it. I am resolving to get back to it soon.
Ohh it’s sooo lovely! (fingers crossed). I make tree decorations. Each year I make a new one, they are balls with a picture of the most important thing that happened to us during last year.
I love this garland!
This garland is so pretty! It would truly be a treasure for whomever wins it. Making cookies and candy at Christmas is my thing although a favorite craft from my childhood still lingers in my mind. I loved making construction paper chain garlands. I could spend hours doing that and most often did.
Oh ! That’s so adorable !
I’m in love with this garland !
And for X-mas, I adore create some cards !
Oooooooooooo, now I know what to do with vintage paper! I love it!
