Taking a Step Back. Way Back. (Plus Koigu! Koigu!)

26 July 2012 | by Jen in Whatnot

Two months since my last post, wow.  I have to say it’s rather liberating to remove an “obligation” from my to-do list (even if it’s only temporary).   I actually find it difficult to write more than a short blast like I’ve been doing on occasion on the FB page.  I do miss being part of the blog community and keeping in touch with all of you.  (Casey and I had a discussion about this and it’s nice to know others share similar feelings about this topic.)

Instead of writing a post about my feelings about blogging (generally), my blog (specifically), or the internets (both generally and specifically) I’m just going to list a few things to sum up where I’m at right now:

1. Koigu yarn is awesome!  And The Beekeeper’s Quilt pattern allows me to a.) Sample some really pretty yarn that I probably would not wear or otherwise use, b.) Inspires me to MAKE something since I’ve been so incredibly listless and uninspired lately, and c.) Create something that does not require fitting because fitting makes me feel crabby and leads to not doing anything (see b).

2. I’ve purged my closet of many, many things.  Things that I’ve grown out of mentally and emotionally.  My style has become more simple and modern.  Maybe even grown-up.  And while I still adore vintage and will forever incorporate old things into my decorating and clothing style, I feel like I’ve stretched and strengthened and moved forward, further into adulthood…a good thing.  In other words, there IS some clothes sewing in my future. :)

3. I don’t know where my blogging stands right now.  I do need to continue to step back from it.  Look at it from a distant through a telescope.  The virtual world has gotten so…I don’t know…too much.  I don’t even have the patience to take in-focus photos anymore (as you can see above) or the energy to comment very much.  But I DO see myself continuing to share in places such as Raverly, Flickr (since I pay for it!), and Facebook…if anyone is interested!

So funny, I think a lot of us are feeling the same way. I have noticed this across the board. Some bloggers have totally abandoned their blogs in favor of instagram, twitter, and even facebook. This kind of makes me sad, as I’m more of a wordy person, and visually, the other formats don’t do it for me.
I’m trying to regain my steam as well. I feel like I just don’t have that much to share, but the best blogs are the ones that share bits of themselves as much as possible.

I hope to see you on here still, when you can of course :)

Thank you, Elizabeth! I agree on all accounts. Sometimes I wish I was more like Alicia (Posie Gets Cozy) for example, someone with such an ability with words and who is so willing to share her personal life. But the fact is I’m just not comfortable with that anymore. Maybe if I had a closed blog or an email newsletter sent out to people I actually “know” (including blog friends). I do love to share my crafts especially since I don’t have any crafty friends nearby. Oh well, we’ll see how things go!

I do enjoy your blog and am glad when you post! :)

No….. I just started blogging again. Don’t discourage me. BUT- I do manage to do so much more if I’m not glued to the computer, so I know what you are talking about.

        Hi Michelle,

I really think it’s about balance and finding what you need to do and what you really want to do. I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that I can’t do everything I want to do.

Best of luck with the blogging!

Well, you know how I feel since we just discussed it–so I won’t bend your ear about that one again! ;) lol. But I am glad that you did at least pop back on for a little update! :D I too have been going through and purging my closet a bit lately… I feel like my style is slowly evolving into an artistic mash-up of vintage and modern pieces. Similar to what I wore years ago before I got heavily into vintage, but with a bit more flair (and a lot more thrifted pieces). I just don’t have as much time to “primp and preen” anymore (nor do I seem to enjoy it as much!), and simpler makes things so much quicker in the mornings to get ready! hehe.

Casey, you can bend my ear anytime!

I think style evolution is good. If you change as a person then it would make sense for personal style to reflect that! And it feels good to purge! :) Your very vintage look has always been inspiring but any changes you are making to your look I’m sure would inspire as well; the important thing is that it reflects you. :)

I love your blog – I just found it and will definitely be enjoying looking at all the past posts, even if you don’t write more. I’m a very on again/ off again blogger myself, but that’s ok.
Also – love that Koigu (454?) in the middle. Yum!
