About

I started blogging in 2005 when I found myself unemployed, living in a new state and with way too much yarn on my hands (and in my closet, and under the bed…).  Thankfully I’m now employed, living back in California (for the time being) and while I still have too much yarn, my staggeringly huge piles of fabric in my studio are becoming quite impressive.

There’s fabric, yes, and then there are the art supplies; both of which have returned me to my childhood aspirations of becoming a “draw-er” and doll maker.   It’s funny, those things you are reluctant to let go of; perhaps there’s something behind them.

I still blog about yarn and yarn-ish things sometimes but often nowadays I post new work I’m doodling or frocks I’m stitching.  But mostly, I blog because the internet really is an amazing and interactive platform for not only sharing work and perhaps making a living, but also for making friends and gaining perspective on all sorts of curious and silly matters.

FAQ

Q: Who designed your website and packaging/business cards, etc?

A: Well, that would be me, but of course!

Q: Do you do freelance work?  Can you design my business cards, etc.?

A: Thank you for asking!  We can certainly discuss a project together: please see my Contact page to get in touch.

Q: Who taught you how to sew?  When did you learn?

A: My mom taught me although maybe somewhat reluctantly.  I wasn’t really allowed to sew, at least not unsupervised, but I was quite determined to make my own dolls so I would sneak into her sewing kit for supplies.  Don’t worry - while I was only about 5 or 6, I didn’t use the sewing machine and was satisfied making hand-sewn tube dresses out of scraps of calico.
